Motorcycle track days are hugely popular
events today. They provide an opportunity for motorcyclists to take
their motorcycles to a real racetrack for an entire day. A racetrack is
a safe, controlled environment for motorcycle riders to hone their
skills. There are many motorcycle track day organizations in operation.
Motorcycle track days are all conducted a little differently, but
operate under the same basic structure. At the track riders check in, showing proof of medical insurance and signing safety waivers. Rider equipment is checked and approved. A good organization will perform a safety check on each motorcycle as well. Riders are grouped by skill level and given a corresponding sticker. The groups are run in twenty minute alternating sessions with a one hour lunch break. Each group has its own passing rules appropriate to the skill level. Before riders take to the track this and other racetrack rules will be covered. All motorcycle track days provide paramedics and an ambulance. If the ambulance takes a rider to the hospital, the track is closed until the ambulance gets back. Lunch is sometimes catered by the motorcycle track day organizers. Find out before you attend, and no matter what, always plan on bringing plenty to drink. Motorcycle track days are available for all motorcycle skill levels. Some organizations will cater more to racers while others offer an environment for everyone. Some of the larger organizations offer instruction. Instruction can be for first time track riders or experienced riders training for motorcycle racing. |
